Becoming a barber is more than just going to school and getting a job. There is a lot of equipment required in order to be an effective barber. A good barber will have the equipment (and backups) necessary to become a great barber. Here is a brief rundown of what you’ll need.

 

Before we go over the tools you will need when you become a barber, let’s start out with your appearance.  You have to look good when you are a barber because first impressions mean a lot.  Get yourself a nice barber jacket.  You want something that looks good and feels good.  You’ll be wearing it a lot and need to stay comfortable.

The Major Tools

There are a lot of different brands of clippers available for barbers to use nowadays, but the most popular is Oster Wahl.  We recomend the 76 Oster Wahl clippers as they are powerful with a heavy duty universal motor that will cut through thick and wet hair efficiently and quickly.  The faster you cut, the more money you’ll make.

You are going to need an additional clipper that is good for all-around outlining and fading when you become a barber.  The Andis 01557 Masters have an unbreakable, lightweight aluminum housing and a high speed motor that runs quiet and cool.  This clippers are ideal for dry cutting.

T-liner or OutlinerBecoming a barber requires Andis t-liners for those fine lines

You are going to need a specialized set of clippers for those fine lines and patterns that some clients request of their barbers.  This are called t-liners or outliners.  A very great t-liner is the Andis T-liner Trimmer.  It has a very close-cutting stainless-steel T-Blade with a powerful pivot motor for clipping, trimming and outlining.

 

Blades For Your Clippers

It is always best to have 2 of each blade that you have in your set.  You can buy most blades individually or as a set.  The price and quality will vary based on the brand you are using.  As a professional barber, you want to stick with the same brand blade as your clippers.
